SUMMERVILLE, SC (WCSC) - A shooting outside a Summerville restaurant took the life of a 25-year-old mother.
Dorchester County Coroner Paul Brouthers says Cassandra Small died outside the Three Cafe on Iris Street late Thursday night.
An officer responded to shots heard just after 11 p.m. and saw another officer trying to revive Smalls with CPR.
He also saw what appeared to be two gunshot wounds to the woman's chest and thigh, according to the incident report.
People who knew Smalls say she had big plans.
Sadly her life was cut short in the parking lot of the Three Cafe’ Seafood Bar and Grill.
Summerville police say employees and patrons inside the restaurant heard gunshots outside and hit the floor.
Investigators say two of those shots hit Smalls, killing her.
“This is my best friend since I was 12 years old, more like a sister more like anything else," said Beniqua Palmer."So I wasn’t expecting to be speaking of her past or be here today.”
According to the incident report, friends and officers tried to revive Smalls with CPR but couldn’t save her.
“We’re very distraught of course," Palmer said."We would just really like to know what’s going on because we have just as much information as you have.We don’t know anything.”
Smalls was a mother of two boys, ages three and two.
“She’s only 25," Palmer said."She didn’t even get to see her babies start school for the first time.”
Thursday night was the second shooting at the restaurant this year. In January someone fired shots into the building wounding a woman in the shoulder.
Smalls' loved ones are hoping someone will tell investigators who shot her.
“If anyone has any information on the people or person who took this beautiful mother away from her precious babies, please come forward," Palmer said.
Anyone with information on the shooting should call Summerville Police or Crime Stoppers at 843-554-1111.
