NORTH CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - Police say two North Charleston residents were arrested Tuesday after a call to investigate a possible meth lab led to the discovery of a counterfeiting operation.

Authorities responded to a home in the 2600 block of Sal Lane around 8:45 a.m. after the owner of the residence discovered what he believed to be meth-making materials used by the suspects in a bin in his backyard.

North Charleston police say the bin housed parts to a broken down, inactive meth lab, while a search of the home uncovered "precursors for methamphetamine," in addition to a printer, paper and counterfeit five and twenty dollar bills.

Police say the suspects, 37-year-old Michael Lee Hilbourn and 32-year-old Diane Ester Buchanan, admitted to making the counterfeit money.

Both suspects were arrested and charged with forgery. Buchanan was also charged with manufacturing of ice, crank, or crack, while Hilbourn was hit with a charge for narcotics schedule I & II. Bond was set at $60,000 for both suspects.

If you, or someone you know, have any information regarding any crime, you are encouraged to contact Crime Stoppers. You could earn a reward up to $1,000.
