CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - Berkeley Electric Cooperative members who are without power are being targeted by scammers according to the company's Facebook page.
The company's post says people living in the Cross area are being approached by individuals who claim to work for the cooperative.
The BEC imposters tell the homeowner that their power will not be restored until repairs are made to their meter base.
Berkeley Electric warns that their employees will "under no circumstances be taking payments for any type of repairs in the field".
If you've been approached by someone claiming your meter is in need of repairs, call Berkeley Electric Cooperative at (843) 761-8200.
