CHARLESTON, SC (WCBD) - Charleston Police are searching for Joseph Nelson in connection to a burglary at 39 Morris Street on Wednesday January 22, 2014. Nelson is also wanted on a forgery charge that stemmed from the same burglary.

According to police, on January 22 an officer responded to 39 Morris Street in reference to a burglary that occurred earlier. The victim told police that she returned home at 2 p.m. to find the front door unlocked and damaged. The only items missing from the home were the victim's checkbook.

On Thursday January 23 police were called to the First Federal Bank for a stolen check. When police arrived the teller said that a black male entered the bank and attempted to cash a $400 check. The teller checked the signature on the check with the account holder's signature on file and found that they did not match. As the teller went into another room and contacted the account holder the suspect left the bank without his identification.

The suspect was wearing a black coat, blue hooded sweatshirt, black jeans and a beanie hat. The suspect was identified as having a distinct limp in his walk. The suspect fled on a black bicycle with red and white lettering.

The suspect Joseph Nelson is 5'7" and weighs 195 pounds. If you have any information on this suspect call Crimestoppers at 1-888-CRIME-SC (274-6372) or text the word TIPSC with a message to CRIMES (274637).
