MT. PLEASANT, SC (WCSC)- A 63-year-old Mt. Pleasant man is behind bars after police say he fired four shots from a revolver into the air while outside a hotel to "see if the ammo was still any good."
Thomas Andrew Warren was arrested Tuesday night and charged with unlawful carry of a firearm, discharging a firearm within the town limits, and simple possession of marijuana.
Mt. Pleasant police were called out to the Extended Stay on Wingo Way Tuesday after receiving multiple calls regarding gunshots in the area just before 10 p.m.
One witness told police the suspect told her earlier in the night that "something was going to go down," and if she didn't want to get hurt she should stay out of the way.
Police say they found Warren, who has been staying at the hotel, walking near the Extended Stay entrance.
According to an incident report, officers found a .22 caliber revolver in his right pocket. The revolver had four spent casings and two live rounds in the chamber.
The report states Warren said he had just returned to the hotel when he noticed his revolver and wanted to see if the ammo was still good. He then fired multiple shots in the air.
Warren went on to tell officers he was not suicidal and did not intend to hurt anyone.
Police say they did not find any signs of damage at the hotel.
Officers say the suspect admitted to having marijuana in his truck, which was parked at the hotel. A search warrant uncovered a black pouch in the truck containing marijuana and four pills.
Warren was arrested and booked at the Charleston County Detention Center.
