WEST ASHLEY, SC (WCSC) - Officials with the Charleston Police Department are on the lookout for a man who robbed a bank in West Ashley Friday afternoon.

Charleston police spokesman Charles Francis said the First Palmetto Bank located at 5 Sumar Street, near the split of Old Towne Road and Sam Rittenberg Boulevard, was robbed about 2 p.m.

Police describe the suspect as a black male, between the ages of 40 and 50, bald head, medium build, wearing dark colored clothing with a black hat and a mask.

According to police, at one point, while the suspect was inside the bank he removed his mask from his face.

Authorities say the suspect said he had a gun, but never took out a weapon. The suspect was also seen with a brown plastic bag.

The robber took off with an undisclosed amount of money. Francis said no one was injured in the incident.

Anyone with information is asked to call Central Investigations at 720-2487, the Charleston police at 720-2427 or Crime Stoppers at 554-1111.
