NORTH CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - Authorities are continuing an investigation into a body which was found in a ditch off Dorchester Road, hours after deputies responded to a shooting nearby.

Officials with the Dorchester County Sheriff's Office released deputies' reports on both incidents that happened on Friday which ended with authorities locating the body of 26-year-old Rashaad Lamarks Banks, who Coroner Christ Nisbet said appeared to have died from a single gun shot wound to the back of his head.

At 2:01 a.m. on Friday, deputies responded to Club Rehab on 8484 Dorchester Rd. in North Charleston for a report of shots fired. An incident report states that North Charleston police officers were at the Kangaroo convenience store across from the club when they heard shots being fired in the parking lot of Club Rehab.

Authorities were told that a 23-year-old Goose Creek man was struck by gunfire and was transported to the hospital. North Charleston police told deputies they saw a black in color vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed traveling to the hospital.

Police had the three people detained from that vehicle, while the victim was treated at the hospital. Authorities say the three people in the car were not cooperative in providing details on the incident except that they brought the victim to the hospital for a gunshot wound.

According to investigators, the victim was also unwilling to provide much information on the incident. Deputies say the victim was suffering from a gunshot wound to his left shoulder.

One of the passengers in the car told investigators that a man named "Black" was sitting in the driver's side of the car in the parking lot of Club Rehab when shots began to fire. The passenger said he then saw the victim getting struck by a bullet in the shoulder.

The other two passengers told investigators that they never saw an individual named Black in the car. The victim said he did not see a person named Black either.

At 6:59 a.m., deputies responded to the area of 8484 Dorchester Rd. in reference to a man in the ditch on the side of the road. Authorities found a man lying face down in the ditch.

Crime scene technicians said they located a gunshot wound to the victim's back.

Last week sheriff's investigators say the incidents appeared to be related. One investigator said it was possible the male victim who died was involved in the shooting, and hid when authorities responded to the scene. That investigator said the victim's wounds did not appear to be immediately life-threatening, and said it was probable he had been bleeding for several hours.
