WEST ASHLEY, SC (WCSC) - Police have arrested a teen they say broke into a West Ashley home and stole $4,000 worth of jewelry and more than $2,000 worth of electronic equipment.

Charleston Police Department officers arrested 18-year-old Ahshaad Mykiel Owens Thursday afternoon and charged him with second-degree burglary and grand larceny.

Investigators say Owens kicked in the rear door of a home on Madagascar Court Tuesday and proceeded to steal a number of valuable items.

Police say Owens ransacked the entire home between 9 a.m. and 1:20 p.m. while the victim was away. When she returned, she found dresser drawers on the bedroom floor, empty jewelry container, desk drawers open, a TV moved, and the aforementioned damage to the rear door.

Investigators say in addition to jewelry, the following pieces of equipment were stolen:

  • A black dell Inspiron laptop, model 1525, serial #CQ9NPR1
  • A black Canon power shot digital camera, model SX260 HS, serial #5900B001
