WALTERBORO, SC (WCSC)- A Walterboro man has been arrested after investigators say he funneled over $45,000 worth of tax payments into his own pockets while working at a tax preparation workshop.
Lennie Johnson, 45, was arrested by SLED agents Wednesday and charged with breach of trust with fraudulent intent over $10,000.
According to an affidavit, Johnson stole roughly $45,430 while working at the Income Tax Workshop from January 1, 2012 to April 30, 2012.
Investigators say Johnson prepared tax returns for customers, but he did not report the preparations for some customers to the business owners.
Records show Johnson used software at the Income Tax Workshop to file the tax returns, allowing authorities to see how much money was missing.
Agents say Johnson's bank statements show deposits of $43,766 during the period that the money went missing.
Johnson is being held at the Colleton County Detention Center.
