CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - Police in Charleston and North Charleston are inviting folks to join them in the community Tuesday for National Night Out.
The annual anti-crime event sees law enforcement and residents band together to promote crime prevention, police community partnership, and gather support.
It’s a good opportunity for folks to interact with police and get to know the people who patrol their neighborhood.
“It creates relationships where people can interact in a positive environment, instead of just when there is an emergency of some sort. It makes a time where citizens will actually walk up and whisper something to an officer. They might not have wanted to pick up the phone and call, but they don't mind talking to an officer out there to try and clean something up in their neighborhood, " said Charleston Police Sergeant Trevor Shelor.
Charleston police are hosting a flashlight walk at 7:30 p.m. from several neighborhoods to Hampton Park.
North Charleston police are having a neighborhood cookout at 6 p.m. at the Pepper Hill Community Center.
If your neighborhood wants to host an event, you can still sign up before noon. Just call 843-769-7407.
