COLLETON COUNTY, SC (WCSC) - Officials with the Colleton County Sheriff's Office say they have arrested a 20-year-old man suspected in the murder of a 23-year-old woman.

Investigators arrested Dashawn Trevell Brown of Walterboro who was wanted for murder and attempted murder charges in connection to an incident last month at the Starlight Lounge in St. George where Sierra Truesdale was fatally shot.

At 8 p.m. on Tuesday, the sheriff's office, SWAT and the US Marshall's Service attempted to take Brown into custody at a home near Walterboro. When law enforcement arrived and surrounded the home, people came out of the residence and told authorities that Brown was inside.

Authorities say after Brown refused to come out voluntarily, a search warrant was obtained, and investigators found Brown hiding in a back bedroom between mattresses.

"I am proud that law enforcement agencies worked together to take such a fugitive charged with murder into custody, especially after observing how our Sheriff's Office SWAT team methodically performed to bring this incident to a peaceful end. In what could have been a violent situation, their many hours of training paid off and no one was injured. I am confident that they could have handled any threat they may have encountered," said Sheriff R.A. Strickland.

Deputies say on July 14, Brown, a reputed member of the violent "Cowboys" gang in Colleton County, shot and killed Truesdale at the Starlight Lounge in St. George.

Investigators say Truesdale was celebrating her birthday and was an innocent bystander.

Deputies say Brown also shot and wounded two other people at the nightclub.
