Sheriff: Goose Creek shootings not related

GOOSE CREEK, SC (WCSC) - The Berkeley County Sheriff's Office says two shootings in Goose Creek last weekend which left five people injured were not related.

The first shooting happened early Saturday, when two people were shot at Club Pluto on Red Bank Road after an altercation inside spilled into the parking lot. Sheriff's office spokesman said a handgun was used in that shooting.

Then, early Sunday morning, three people were shot at Nowhere Bar and Grill on North Rhett Avenue as staff was trying to close the establishment. Moon said a shotgun was used in that incident.

Staff members said they were closing up for the night when two black males entered the bar and asked for a drink. It was after the legal time to serve alcohol.

"They showed up at last call and were refused service and [they] got upset we refused service," said Daniel Chenoweth, the owner of the bar.

Chenoweth said their anger quickly turned to violence.

"They called the bartender racist and basically came back out to the parking lot, changed their clothes, and shot three of our customers," said Chenoweth.

Deputies said the shooting victims were regulars at the bar. Vikki Taylor was working at the time of the shooting. She is still getting over the shock.

"Not really afraid. I just kind of didn't know what was going on. I have been [working] here for four years and this has never happened here before," said Taylor.

Neighbors who live across from Nowhere Bar and Grill said nothing like this has ever happened.

But, after Saturday's shooting at Club Pluto, which is just five minutes away, neighbors reacted differently.

"I am hearing gunshots coming from there. There are police chases," said Robin Buell. "It has been bad news since it has been open."

Club Pluto is no stranger to gun violence. In May, dozens of shots were fired in the club's parking lot, sending a man to the hospital.

In January, deputies said a car full of people were leaving Club Pluto when they were involved in a shooting at the intersection of Red Bank and Howe Hall roads. Last October, a man was involved in a shooting on NAD Road. Deputies said the man had just left Club Pluto when the shooting happened.

"I like the area, but we just feel unsafe here now with all of the gun shootings going on," said Buell.

No arrest has been made in either shooting. Deputies said the car that left the scene of the Club Pluto shooting was a black Chevrolet Impala.

A black car was also seen leaving the scene of the shooting on North Rhett Avenue, but deputies said Monday it was not the same vehicle.
