BERKELEY COUNTY, SC (WCSC) - Police in Moncks Corner say a robbery suspect took a bite out of a convenience store clerk's hand.
Officers say it happened when the clerk tried to stop the suspect from taking money from the cash register at the Kangaroo gas station on 2800 N. Highway 52 Thursday morning.
It all started when a customer was putting air in his tires and saw a silver Pontiac park next to the gas station. A police report states the customer saw the suspect get out of the Pontiac, drop a beer and urinate beside the car before heading into the gas station.
The customer said he drove back to the gas station to check on the clerk since he felt the suspect was acting suspiciously. When the customer came back, he saw the Pontiac leave and was told by the clerk that he was robbed.
The clerk told police that the suspect first put a pack of gum on the counter and when the clerk opened the register, the suspect tried to grab money.
Authorities say the clerk was bitten when he tried to stop the robber. The suspect then ran out of the door.
The suspect's getaway car was found not far from the crime scene. Police say the investigation is continuing.
