MOUNT PLEASANT, SC (WCSC)- Mt. Pleasant police are investigating a shooting after finding a man suffering from a gunshot wound in a truck speeding across the Arthur Ravenel Jr. Bridge early Sunday.
A Mount Pleasant Police Department incident report states an officer saw a truck clocked at 96 miles per hour pass him around 2:15 a.m. The officer said the truck continued weaving in and out of traffic, and appeared to strike a retaining wall.
The officer performed a traffic stop, and when he did, the driver of the vehicle told police his passenger had been shot in the ankle. The victim told police he was getting into the vehicle outside of East Cooper Disco, on Venning Road, when he heard several shots.
The victim said he realized he had been shot moments later. The victim was not able to provide and more information on the incident.
Police said he declined transportation from EMS when they arrived on scene, because he said he didn't want to pay for an ambulance. The man's friend drove him to Roper Hospital.
Investigators set up a crime scene outside East Cooper Disco, but they were unable to find any shell casings or other types of evidence there.
The investigation is ongoing.
