WEST ASHLEY, SC (WCSC) - Police arrested a 21-year-old man after officers found drugs and a gun in a car during a traffic stop on Sam Rittenberg.

The Charleston Police Department charged Joshua Gedon Lachance with possession of marijuana with the intent to distribute, possession of a firearm with an obliterated serial number and unlawful carrying of a handgun

Around 5 p.m. on Saturday, a police officer says he saw a motorist disregard a traffic signal at Orange Grove Road and Ashley Hall Road. A police report states that the officer then pulled the vehicle over and detected a strong odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle.

Police say the driver then consented to a search of the vehicle where authorities say they found 12.5 grams of marijuana, a handgun with an obliterated serial number and $407.

Lachance was locked up at the Al Cannon Detention Center and was also issued a warning citation for disregarding a traffic signal.

Charleston police are continuing the investigation.
