CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - Charleston City Police is looking for a man accused of a brutal beating on Line Street in downtown. Authorities are looking for 21-year-old Kevon Varns for second-degree assault and battery.
On April 30, a police officer was patrolling the area of Line and Nassau Street when he noticed a man lying in the middle of the street. When the officer got close to the victim he saw massive injuries to the victim's head and scrapes along his arms. Police say the victim also had blood smeared on his face and that his eyes were swollen shut.
An incident report states that the officer tried to get information from the victim, but because of the victim's head injuries he was having difficulty focusing and answering questions.
The victim was taken to MUSC for treatment where doctors say he would have to undergo surgery because of multiple facial fractures he received during the incident.
A witness told police that he saw two men, one wearing a white shirt and another wearing a black shirt kicking and punching the victim to the ground.
According to the witness, the suspects were then seen running towards Handover Street. One of the suspects was seen going into a home on Line Street after the incident.
If you have any information on the whereabouts of Kevon Varns, please call Crime Stoppers at 843-554-1111.
