MOUNT PLEASANT, SC (WCSC) - Police say three Mount Pleasant schools that were closed for shots fired in the area have been reopened after authorities discovered that the sound reported was of a basketball exploding after being run over by a car.
Mt. Pleasant Police Department Captain Stan Gragg said the popping sound was mistaken for gun fire.
The Charleston County School District says Laurel Hill, Cario and Pinckney, all located in the Park West development, were released from administrative lockdown Tuesday afternoon.
Witnesses reported that kids outside of Pinckney were quickly rushed inside of the school when the sound was heard.
