FOLLY BEACH, SC (WCSC) - Police have sent evidence involving a murdered Folly Beach cat to the state crime lab in Columbia today.
Judy, an 8-year-old family pet, was killed on Mother's Day when she was stabbed and impaled on a piece of steel rebar at a vacant property next to her owner's house. She was found two days later.
Police say they have spoken with a person of interest, and believe that person has information important to the case.
Residents and officials on Folly Beach are taking this "horrific" crime very seriously, according to Carol Linville, president of Pet Helpers on Folly Beach. She says a DNA test has been performed on the cat, and Dr. Jack Love, DVM of Pet Helpers did a Necropsy exam as well.
Pet Helpers is now offering a $1,000 reward, doubling their initial reward, for anyone who has information on who brutally killed a pet cat earlier this month.
Linville is asking that anyone with any information to contact Folly Public Safety at (843) 588-2433 or Pet Helpers at (843) 795-1110.
