AWENDAW, SC (WCSC) - Investigators say a motorcyclist attempted to get away from a sheriff's deputy who was trying to stop him, but ended up wrecking his bike instead.
The Charleston County Sheriff's Office says 32-year-old Frank Baughn of North Charleston was arrested Tuesday afternoon after trying to run from a sheriff's deputy. The incident happened around 1:15 p.m. in the 5100 block of Highway 17, said Major Jim Brady with the Charleston County Sheriff's Office.
Baughn, who was driving a 2004 Kawasaki motorcycle, was seen speeding past a deputy on the opposite side of the road. By the time the deputy turned around to go after Baughn, he had already sped off, Brady said.
Authorities say when the deputy caught up to the motorcyclist, he had already wrecked.
Brady says Baughn tried to run away after the wreck, but was caught by the deputy after a foot pursuit. An ambulance was called to the scene and took Baughn to a local hospital for injuries he received in the accident.
It is unknown at this time how the crash happened, or why the motorcyclist ran from the deputy.
