CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - Police say they arrested two men who beat and robbed another man after he left work on Friday in downtown Charleston.
Charleston Police Department spokesman Charles Francis said the incident happened on Archdale Street around 10 p.m. when the victim had just left his job on Meeting Street, and was on his way to friend's house on Pitt Street.
Francis said 25-year-old Anthony Donnell Brown and 43-year-old Jeffery Bernard Simmons confronted the victim and punched him before taking his wallet and cell phone.
The victim then went to his friend's house and called police, who arrived on scene and began to search the area for suspects. Francis said one officer saw Brown and Simmons and began to interview them, but they ran off.
Police said they threw the cell phone and wallet on the ground as they tried to get away, and they were found a short time later near the corner of Meeting and Pinckney streets.
Francis says Brown and Simmons are charged with armed robbery. They are being held in the Al Cannon Detention Center.
