NORTH CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - A 22-year-old man who was shot after he attempted to rob a man has died.

Officials say RaCarlton Alphonse Scott died on Wednesday. Officials with the North Charleston Police Department say Scott was shot by a man he was attempting to rob at the Green Tree North Apartments off of Otranto Road.

Police officials said on Thursday that the man that shot Scott does not face any charges.

On March 27, authorities responded to the apartment complex around 5 p.m. in reference to shots fired. Officers located the victim who said while he was putting his 4-year-old daughter in his vehicle, Scott approached him with a gun demanding his chain, rings, money and cellphone.

The victim said he tossed his keys in his car and was told by Scott to give him his pants. A fight then started between the two. Police said Scott then struck the victim in his head causing a laceration to his forehead.

According to a police report, the victim reached into his glove box, retrieved a gun and chased Scott to the side of the building. Police say Scott then turned towards the victim and fired several shots at him.

Investigators say the victim returned fire and hit Scott, who was transported to the hospital in critical condition.

Police also arrested 24-year-old Jermaine Venning and 20-year-old Jamel Prezzy.
