WEST ASHLEY, SC (WCSC) - A new report released by police Thursday states a handgun was recovered near the badly-decomposed body found in the woods near Walmart on Bees Ferry Road Wednesday.
The Charleston Police Department incident report states a Ruger pistol was found.
Police say a man was walking in the woods looking for turtles around 5 p.m. Wednesday when he found a badly decomposed body.
The Charleston County Coroner's Office responded to the scene.
Charleston Police Department Spokesman Charles Francis says that the investigation of the body is not related to Gayle McCaffrey, who's been missing for about a month.
The Charleston County Sheriff's Office, who's been investigating McCaffrey's disappearance, says they are not involved in the investigation of the body found in West Ashley.
