DORCHESTER COUNTY, SC (WCSC) - A store owner is behind bars after investigators say they found $100,000 worth of counterfeit merchandise from a store in St. George.
William Simmons, 29, of St. George was arrested on Thursday after police got a tip that phony handbags, sneakers and DVDs were being sold at his store.
Investigators say they set up surveillance outside the "Technology Connection" store and then made their move.
"We watched and saw some guys go in and make the transactions and came back out. At that point, we went in and it was right there, sitting on the counter," said Chief Anthony Britt with St. George Police.
Police say Simmons confessed and told them he sold the counterfeit merchandise because he has two kids and needed to make money.
