CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC)- Police arrested a teen Monday night after a man was beaten and robbed by several men in downtown Charleston.
Charleston Police Department officers responded to the 100 block of America Street just after 8 p.m. after receiving reports of an assault and robbery.
The 30-year-old victim told police he was using the telephone at the corner of America and Lee streets when an unknown man came up behind him and grabbed him in a "bear hug." The victim said at least four other men then came up and started punching and kicking him. The incident report states the robbers stole the man's wallet which contained $70 in cash.
The victim told officers he thought he saw one of his assailants standing near the corner of Jackson Street and America Street. That suspect, 19-year-old Jamar Aiken Brown, was arrested and charged with strong armed robbery.
None of the other perpetrators were located.
