JAMES ISLAND, SC (WCSC) - Investigators with the Charleston County Sheriff's Office say they have not received any missing persons reports following a possible abduction on James Island on Wednesday.
Authorities are continuing the investigation into a reported incident where a female was taken in a car by three men.
A witness didn't want to identify himself, but said he was taking a walk around 4 p.m. Wednesday when he was approached by the same men that he claims abducted the woman.
He described the car as a white convertible Lexus with three men inside. He said the car pulled up beside him, then drove away slowly. The witness said it then approached the woman, who was walking down St. James Drive about six houses ahead of him near Riverland Drive.
He said that is when the driver got out, grabbed the woman by her hair and threw her into the backseat. The witness said the woman screamed and tried to fight the man off, but the car sped away toward Maybank Highway.
"This is the safest neighborhood anyone would want to live in," he said. "But now I don't know. When I want to walk to the store, I don't want to walk alone anymore."
He described the victim to police as being 5'6" to 5'8" and having blonde hair, a pink shirt and flip flops. He said he found one of those flip flops in the road after the car took off.
The intersection of St. James and Riverland was shut down by deputies for most of Wednesday as they searched the area for more clues.
The Charleston County Sheriff's Office is treating this as a possible kidnapping incident.
