SUMMERVILLE, SC (WCSC) - Two men are on the loose after trying to steal an ATM with a stolen forklift early Monday morning in Summerville.
According to the Dorchester County Sheriff's Office, two men wearing dark hooded sweatshirts used a stolen fork lift to try and steal the ATM from First Federal Bank on Central Avenue around 4 a.m. Monday.
According to a witness, who was pumping gas at a nearby gas station, a man drove the forklift over to the ATM and tried to lift and place it into the bed of a red Dodge pick-up truck. The witness then began yelling at the two men, which startled them and caused them to drive off.
When deputies arrived on scene they found a white forklift facing the ATM. The forklift had several wires spliced under the steering wheel and reconnected. The front part of the ATM was damaged.
Deputies say the forklift was stolen from a construction site between Cone Land and Knightsville Elementary School.
