GOOSE CREEK, SC (WCSC) - Investigators are searching for a 19-year-old man who they say accidentally shot a woman Thursday afternoon in Goose Creek.
The Goose Creek Police Department responded to an apartment on Marilyn Street in reference to the shooting around 12:50 p.m.
Officers found a 19-year-old woman with a gunshot wound to her right torso. She was transported to MUSC in stable condition. According to investigators, the suspect was reportedly an acquaintance to the people at the apartment, but his identity was not known.
Police describe the suspect as a 19-year-old white man, 5'7", with a thin build and short buzz-cut type hair. He was last seen wearing blue jeans, a black hoodie shirt and white shoes.
Investigators say preliminary interviews suggested that the shooting was accidental. Officers and deputies from the Berkeley County Sheriff's Office established a perimeter in the Pineview Subdivison. A K-9 team tracked the suspect through the Pineview Subdivision for several blocks before the track went cold.
Due to the proximity of the incident, Westview Primary, Elementary and Middle schools were temporarily placed on lock-down. The lock-down lasted one hour.
The firearm has not been located and the investigation is continuing.
