NORTH CHARLESTON, SC - At about 1:30 today officers responded to Twisted Antler Drive in reference to a male subject in the area discharging a handgun. Once on scene, officers were advised by witnesses that the white male subject exited his pick up truck and fired a shot from his weapon, then left the area towards Salamander Creek Road.

Officers with the North Charleston Police Department and Charleston County Sheriff Office responding to Salamander Creek Road encountered the subject in the driveway of a Salamander Creek Road residence. The male subject at that time pointed a handgun at officers and a North Charleston Police Department Officer fired a single shot striking the subject. A loaded handgun was recovered at the scene.

The subject was transported to MUSC where he was pronounced dead.

As standard procedure in an officer involved shooting, the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) is conducting the incident investigation. The officer involved in the shooting has been placed on paid administrative leave, during the investigation. Any further questions regarding the incident should be directed to SLED.
