HILTON HEAD, SC - Police are investigating a stabbing that happened late Monday night at an apartment complex on the south end of Hilton Head.

Around 10:30 p.m., sheriff's deputies responded to The Dune in reference to a reported assault victim.

When officers arrived, they made contact with a male victim suffering from a stab wound to the neck. The victim said he and an acquaintance had gotten in an argument earlier that evening and the argument continued when they returned to their friend's apartment.

As the altercation escalated, the suspect reportedly pulled out a knife and slashed the victim in the neck. Witnesses called 911 when they heard the argument and victim crying for help.

The suspect fled the scene on foot before deputies arrived. The victim was transported to Savannah for medical treatment and his condition remains undisclosed at this time.

Investigators are working to confirm the identity of the suspect.
