The Summerville Police Department says a man didn't get anything out of an armed robbery after he was held up by a constant stream of customers coming into a store.
Officers responded to the attempted robbery at the Kangaroo Express on 1595 Trolley Road early Tuesday morning.
The victim said the suspect entered the store and pointed a gun at her and another clerk. The suspect then ordered both of them to open the safe.
The victim told the suspect that the safe could not be opened until a certain amount of time has passed. According to investigators, the suspect then ordered the victim and the other clerk to crawl to the chip aisle and lie down on the floor.
The suspect then went to the safe and attempted to open the safe. A customer then entered the store and was told to lie down on the floor.
A vendor then entered the store and the suspect told him to lie down between the aisles. Some time later, another customer came into the store and at that point the suspect demanded that the customer leave.
The suspect then tried to open the safe many times but failed and left the store.
Police describe the suspect as a black male, 5'7", 165 pounds, dressed in a black hooded sweatshirt, wearing blue jeans and a black bandana over his face and had purple tennis shoes.
