CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - Police are on the lookout for a suspect that shot a man in Charleston Thursday afternoon.
The Charleston Police Department say that a 23-year-old man was walking on Amherst Street around 4:45 pm when he was approached by a man armed with a handgun. According to authorities, there was a brief verbal exchange between the victim and the suspect and the victim was shot in the left arm.
The victim then went to his Amherst Street home where his girlfriend decided to drive him to her mother's home off of West Coleman Boulevard. She did this because she told police she didn't know how to get to any of the downtown hospitals.
On the way to her mother's house she stopped at a business on Coleman Boulevard and called Mount Pleasant police, who then notified Charleston Police.
The suspect is described as a black male in his 20's with a dark complexion, thin build and wearing a red ball cap and dark clothing.
The victim was transported to MUSC by EMS where he was treated and released. Police are continuing the investigation.
