CHARLESTON, SC - Police say a man with a mountain bike and what appeared to be a bloody bandage on his chin robbed a credit union Thursday in West Ashley.
Charleston police responded to the Heritage Trust Federal Credit Union at 2030 Sam Rittenberg Blvd. at 10:55 a.m.
Public Information Officer Charles Francis said the suspect passed a note demanding money to the teller and then rode away on a mountain bike. He did not present or claim to have a weapon.
The suspect is described as a black male between 5 feet, 9 inches and 5 feet, 11 inches tall, with dreadlocks.
He wore a white long-sleeved shirt with blue writing on the back and dark work-type pants.
Officers swarmed the credit union and neighboring stores and parking lots just as a downpour hit the area.
The credit union is less than a half-mile from a branch of the Tidelands bank that was robbed March 19 by a man with fake dreadlocks and a fake beard.
There are some similarities between the two robberies, but police can't say for certain at this time that they are related, Francis said.
