NORTH CHARLESTON (WCSC) -
Authorities have identified a moped driver who was struck in a hit-and-run in North Charleston Monday night.
The Charleston County Coroner's Office says 61-year-old Leroy Snipe of North Charleston died from blunt trauma to the head.
Officials with North Charleston police announced Wednesday afternoon that Snipe had died from injuries he sustained in the hit-and-run on the Northbridge.
"According to investigators, he did not have a moped license," NCPD officials said."All indications are that he had operable lights and was wearing a reflective safety vest and a helmet."
Police are searching for the other vehicle involved in the incident which they say should have some front end damage.
"Investigators believe the vehicle involved in the hit and run may be a red or maroon (dark red in color)  Chrysler Sebring or Dodge Stratus 4 door sedan made in the 2000 years (not certain on the actual year)," NCPD officials said."The vehicle should have front end damage."
The incident happened around 11 p.m. on Monday on the Northbridge.
A traffic incident report states the suspect's vehicle and Snipe's moped were traveling northbound on Cosgrove Avenue when the suspect's vehicle struck the moped in the rear causing the moped driver to be ejected.
According to police, the moped was pushed for some distance until it became dislodged from the suspect's vehicle; authorities say the moped was dragged onto the eastbound I-26 on ramp.
Investigators say the suspect left the scene and failed to render aid or give information.
Snipe was transported to the Medical University of South Carolina in critical condition following the incident.
Anyone with information should contact police at 843-554-5700 or Crime Stoppers at 843-554-1111.
Lanes on the Northbridge and the on-ramp had been closed as authorities responded to the scene.
