NORTH CHARLESTON, SC (WCBD) - According to officials just before 12:30 p.m. officers were dispatched to the parking lot of Northwoods Mall near Books-A-Million in reference to a shooting.

When police arrived at the scene they found a black male suffering from a gunshot wound.

The victim told authorities that he came to the mall to pick up a friend and there was an altercation between the two resulting in the victim being shot. The victim was transported to MUSC.

Witnesses say the suspect fled the area and may have gotten into an awaiting vehicle.

The Northwoods Mall was evacuated, as a precaution, to ensure the suspect did not re-enter the mall.

North Charleston and Charleston County Sheriff Department SWAT Teams completed a sweep of Northwoods Mall and has cleared the location. Mall officials say the mall will re-open at 5:30 p.m. and remain open until 9 p.m.

Police say two male suspects were seen running from the scene. Suspect 2 - 5'7" - 6', 140 lbs, short haircut, slender build, wearing long pants and a black shirt.
