MONCKS CORNER, SC (WCSC) - Berkeley County deputies say at least seven different guns, maybe more were fired at a party early Saturday where a 19 year old woman was killed.
Investigators say the victim, Ariel Morgan was one of hundreds who attended the party on Tish Lane in Moncks Corner.
"I'm still questioning why my daughter was the one to be taken, but I guess God has a reason for everything,” said Morgan’s mother, Kendra Morgan-Stevens.
Stevens says Ariel called her from a friend's house where she was getting ready for the party and told her what time she would be home.
A few hours later she got the phone call no parent wants to get.
"I got a phone call from a young lady off my daughter's phone to tell me she had been shot,” Stevens recalled.
Stevens was able to get to the scene and the ambulance before her daughter was taken to the hospital.
"They opened the door and I said I'll see you at the hospital Ariel, I love you. And she said I love you too mom and that's the last time I saw her."
Thirty minutes later, the nursing student was dead.
"Why would someone like that be targeted? It was just a senseless violent act, that's how I see it,” Stevens said.
Tuesday, sheriff's investigators were back at the crime scene, draining ditches to look for guns and other evidence.
We saw shoes that may have been left behind by party goers fleeing from the gunshots.
With so many people at the party, Stevens believes someone saw who shot Ariel.
She has advice for other parents.
"Keep your kids close and try to stop this violence. We need to do something to stop this violence, there's just a lot of hatred in the world and it's just very unfortunate."
The sheriff's office tells me there was supposed to be hired security at the party, but the organizer said the security team pulled out at the last minute, but the party went on without them.
