DORCHESTER COUNTY, SC (WCSC) - Dorchester District 2 officials say a gun and a knife were confiscated at Beech Hill Elementary Wednesday morning after it was discovered two students had the items in their book bags while on a school bus.

Pat Raynor says a student reported the incident to officials when the bus arrived at the school. The student said a gun was in one student's book bag and another student had a knife.

Both students in question were brought to the office before school started and the weapons were confiscated. They were then removed from the campus, Raynor says.

"You just never think it would happen at my child's school, and it was just way too close for comfort," says Lainie Graham, whose son and daughter attend the school.

Officials say law enforcement were immediately called to the school and an investigation is underway.

"I wasn't so much worried about was the school handling it correctly," explains Tonya Law, whose daughter also goes to the school. "I was, more so, worried about what happened until they found out about it."

Parents were notified of the incident via phone call and students brought home a letter regarding the incident.

According to Raynor, she believes both students in the incident are 5th graders and will be facing expulsion.
