NORTH CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - A Sunday killing of a 31-year-old man, whose body was found next to a dumpster, has a community crying out for some answers.

Mothers of murdered young men came together on Monday to make an appeal for the shootings to stop, and for police to get illegal guns off the streets.

Police say the victim of Sunday night's shooting was found next to a dumpster at T.J.'s barbershop on Dorchester road. The coroner's office identified him as Cedric James of Becker Street in North Charleston. James died at the scene.

We are told a second victim was shot in the arm.

For families of other murdered young African American men, this killing was a wake up call for action.

"Put down the guns," said Cannie Zellars whose son was killed this past summer in July."These guns are not making any sense. People don't understand how we feel, the parents are burying our children over just nonsense."

"This is hard for me because I buried my son four days ago," said Nietta Wright whose son died on Nov. 20."I don't know why they killed him but we have to stop this violence. It's crazy, they're taking our lives for what, no reason."

Elder James Johnson of the National Action Network appealed to young men to think before pulling the trigger.Johnson said he plans to ask the governor and the State Law Enforcement Division to do something to get guns off the street.

North Charleston police say they have not identified any suspects or motive for Sunday night's murder.
