NORTH CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - Investigators have arrested a 49-year-old man for a fatal stabbing that happened in North Charleston Friday night.
The North Charleston Police Department charged Robert Prince Jr. on Saturday with murder and possession of a knife during a violent crime. The coroner's office identified the victim in the stabbing as 49-year-old Joseph Brown.
On Friday night, police officers responded to a home on Dorchester Road near Edward A. Burns Elementary School in reference to an assault.
One of the responding officers reported that when he arrived on scene, he saw the victim lying on the ground in front of a mobile home.
Emergency crews said that the victim had an apparent stab wound to his chest. Authorities then went inside the home where they found Prince, who authorities say was intoxicated and sitting on a couch.
Police say Prince had a white T-shirt on which had blood on the back of it. Prince told officers that the blood was Kool-Aid. According to investigators, after Prince took his shirt off and dropped it on the floor, officers saw blood running down Prince's neck and saw a cut to the back of his head.
After officers arrested the suspect, officers say at some point, Prince had apparently pushed his shirt under the sofa using his foot.
A witness said the incident started when Prince was sitting on a couch inside a home and stabbed the victim twice in the chest.
