WEST ASHLEY, SC (WCSC) - The Charleston Police Department is investigating three Chinese restaurant burglaries in West Ashley.
According to police reports, the burglaries appeared to have happened between late Sunday night and early Monday morning. Police officials say an investigation is underway to determine if the burglaries are related.
At 6:12 a.m. on Monday , police responded to the Jade Garden on 3125-B Bees Ferry Rd. in reference to the front door glass being broken. A Bilo manager and employee said they saw that the front door window had been smashed, and called police.
Authorities say they found a small piece of concrete, which may have been used to smash the front door, inside of the business on the floor. Police say it appeared someone broke into a cash register and took money. Officers also found change throughout the floor of the restaurant.
A restaurant employee said someone had also taken money from a bank change box and a plastic tip jar. The employee also told investigators that a CPD report he filed in reference to fraud had been taken from under the front counter.
The employee said the burglary happened between 10 p.m. on Sunday and 6:09 a.m. on Monday.
Three hours later, investigators responded to Hong Kong Chinese Restaurant in reference to a front door being shattered. An employee at a nearby business met with police and said she discovered that the restaurant's door was broken at 8:45 a.m.
A police report states a rock appeared to have been thrown through the front glass door. Authorities say someone had rummaged through several items inside the restaurant.
The owner of the restaurant said she closed the business at 11:30 p.m. on Sunday. She said someone had taken money from a cash register and a drawer underneath the register. Police say someone also took a First Federal check book for the restaurant.
At 9:03 a.m., police officers responded to China Fun on 3025 Ashley Town Center Dr. in reference to a burglary. Officers found that the glass front door of the business was shattered, and the bottom half of the glass was detached from the door frame.
Authorities found the back door was also open.
A manager at the Food Lion, which is next door to the restaurant, said he saw the broken glass at the front door and called police. The owner of the restaurant said she closed the restaurant at 1:30 a.m., and said someone had taken cash from two cash drawers and a brown leather container.
