DORCHESTER COUNTY, SC (WCSC) - Authorities have arrested a man they say stole a gun from a Folly Beach Police Officer in September.
According to authorities, a Summerville Police Officer arrested 25-year-old David Ryan Shelton during a traffic stop in Dorchester County.
According to a report Shelton was a homeless friend of a Folly Beach Police Officer. The officer told investigators that she allowed Shelton to stay at her Summerville home, because he was hungry and had nowhere else to go.
The officer said she noticed her gun was missing the next day when she went to clean the weapon.
Authorities say handcuffs, pepper spray, a baton and box of bullets were also gone.
Investigators say those items were later found at Shelton's mother's house, but the gun was still missing.
Bond for Shelton was set for $5,000 for possession of a stolen handgun and $1,000 for petit larceny. Shelton being held at the Dorchester County Jail in St. George.
