CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - Friends and family remembering the life of Malcolm Jefferson. He was shot and killed on his 18th birthday in West Ashley.

Police say the shooting happened just after midnight on October 8 at 1139 Forbes Avenue in the Maryville neighborhood. Authorities found Malcolm with several gunshot wounds to his torso and he later died at the hospital.

While many details about the case remain unknown, his family tells us one thing is certain - he will be greatly missed.

"I miss my brother, I miss my friend, I miss you and I love you and that's the end," said Sandree Jefferson, older sister of Malcolm.

"Emotionally it's trying moments. Its hard as a parents, and as a family, for us to lose our child," said Malcolm Jefferson Sr., father of Malcolm.

Close to one hundred people filled Forest Park Saturday night for a candle light vigil and moment of silence, in honor of Malcolm Jefferson

"It really made me feel good because it let me know how many hearts my son has touched in his lifetime," said Monica Jefferson, Malcolm's mother.

Friends and family members spoke of the teen in front of the crowd. Though their words can't bring Malcolm back, the memory of him continues.

"He was a loving individual, very loving," said Jefferson Sr.

The community is supporting the family and helping them cope with the loss, but one thing is keeping them from getting closure. Malcolm's killer has not been found.

"It's heart wrenching to go to sleep at night without your baby there and not know who did this," said Monica Jefferson.

"It's devastating, it's hard to sleep."
