BEAUFORT COUNTY, SC (WCSC) - A 41-year-old man has been charged with murder after a woman discovered her mother's body in a home in Beaufort County.
The Beaufort County Sheriff's Office arrested Walter William Glass on Wednesday for the death of Melony Lowther.
At 8:10 a.m. on Wednesday, deputies responded to a home on Bearfoot Alley in the Pritchardville area of Beaufort County regarding a possible homicide. Deputies and emergency crews then discovered Lowther's body at the home.
According to the sheriff's office, Lowther's body was first discovered by her adult daughter, who was visiting the home.
Investigators say Lowther's cause of death appears to be blunt force trauma to the head with a metal object. An incident report states that Lowther was identified within hours and was arrested by deputies.
Authorities say a search of Glass' home resulted in the recovery of property belonging to the victim, as well as the suspected weapon. Officials with the sheriff's office say Glass was an acquaintance of the victim and lived in a camper at the Stoney Crest campground.
Glass has also been charged with armed robbery and burglary. He was locked up at the Beaufort County Detention Center.
An autopsy for Lowther is scheduled at the Medical University of South Carolina.
