JAMES ISLAND, SC (WCSC) - Charleston police say they have arrested a suspect in connection with an attempted robbery and assault that happened during a rendezvous set up on Craiglist.
Charles Francis, police spokesman, said officers arrested 23-year-old Charles Levonne Seabrook II, of North Charleston, and charged him with attempted strong-armed robbery and second-degree assault and battery.
Francis said the incident happened on July 26 at a Bresee Street home.
According to Francis, the victim posted a dirt bike for sale on Craigslist for $1,200. He was then contacted by a person who wasn’t interested in buying that dirt bike, but expressed interest in purchasing another dirt bike.
They agreed to meet at the Bresee Street residence to conduct the transaction. After the sale was completed, a man tapped the victim on the shoulder. He turned around, and the man punched him in the face.
Francis said the victim fell to the ground and the man went through his pockets from money from the dirt bike sale.
A witness prevented the suspect from getting the money, and other witnesses chased the suspect from the scene, Francis said.
The investigation is ongoing.
Seabrook is being held in the Charleston County Detention Center.
