COLUMBIA, SC (WIS) - The Richland County Coroner has identified the Midlands infant who died after he was taken to the hospital Friday with what investigators said were suspicious injuries.
Coroner Gary Watts said Tyler Jamar Miller, who was born June 17 in Columbia, died from complications of blunt force trauma Saturday afternoon at the hospital.
Friday Richland County Sheriff's deputies charged the child's father, 22-year-old Aqien Miller, with infliction of great bodily harm. After Tyler died Saturday, Miller was charged with homicide by child abuse.
Sgt. Curtis Wilson said deputies were called to Palmetto Health Richland Children's Hospital Friday afternoon after a 7-week-old arrived who was unresponsive. Wilson said Tyler's injuries appeared to be suspicious.
Miller did not appear in bond court Sunday.
The Richland County Sheriff's Department's investigation continues.
