GOOSE CREEK, SC (WCSC) - Goose Creek police say a 13-year-old girl acted as a lookout while her 16-year-old boyfriend and two of his friends broke into an apartment and robbed a couple at gunpoint.

According to an incident report, officers were called to an armed robbery in progress at a unit of the S and K Apartments at 114 Farm Road around 5:45 p.m. Sunday.

Police said the victims, a 33-year-old man and a 40-year-old woman, told officers they were asleep when the trio barged in. The woman said she was almost asleep when he heard a loud noise at the front door. When she opened the door, she found a teen holding a gun telling her to “get the (expletive) out of the way.”

The woman told police a second teen then stepped through the door, grabbed her, and threw her on the couch.

The male victim said he then woke up to find a handgun pressed against the left side of his face, with a teen saying “give me your wallet.” The man said he gave the victim his wallet, which contained $200.

As the suspects were leaving the home, the female victim told officers she saw a suspect, later identified as 19-year-old Chris Tyrone Thomas, close the door behind the two other perpetrators.

The female victim told police she then hopped on her bicycle and followed the trio as they fled towards the bike trail that leads to Westview Boulevard.

North Charleston police arrived on scene with a K9 team and dogs were able to track the suspects’ trail to 111 Pineview Drive. As they were arriving, they saw one suspect matching the victims’ description leaving the home. The juvenile was taken into custody.

Authorities then spoke with a homeowner, who told officers there were three other teens inside his home. He also gave police consent to search the house, and the other three suspects were taken into custody.

The 13-year-old girl admitted to acting as a lookout near the driveway into the apartment. She also told police the trio robbed the male victim because he owed Thomas money.

The victims then identified the 16-year-olds and Thomas as their assailants. They were charged with armed robbery with a deadly weapon and kidnapping.

The 13-year-old was charged with accessory after the fact and armed robbery, according to Goose Creek Police Lieutenant Karen Nix.

Thomas is being held in the Berkeley County Detention Center.
