AWENDAW, SC (WCSC) - An Awendaw couple had an early morning surprise Wednesday when they woke up to find a man had broken into their house and was sitting pantless in their bedroom mumbling "everyone is dead".
Charleston County deputies say they were called out to a home on Gadsdenville Road around 3:30 a.m. where the suspect, 31-year-old Tracy Perry of North Charleston, was being held in the driveway.
According to a report, Perry broke into the home through the back door and went upstairs to the husband and wife's bedroom. The suspect then sat in a chair and starting saying "everyone is dead".
The suspect then took his pants off and asked for water, deputies say.
The female victim was able to lead Perry down the stairs and outside, and then went next door to call deputies, the report states.
Perry groped the victim while she walked him downstairs, officers say.
The victim told deputies it appeared Perry was pleasuring himself while on the driveway.
Deputies say Perry was responsible for a number of vehicle break-ins prior to entering the victim's home. Nothing of value was stolen from any of the properties, although some cars were damaged.
The report states while officers were trying to get Perry's information, the suspect rambled on about "knowing where people were buried", and giving different names and birth dates while using "made up accents and languages." He also told deputies he worked for the government.
Perry was taken into emergency protective custody and transported to MUSC for a mental evaluation.
Criminal charges are pending as a result of the evaluation, deputies say.
