NORTH CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - Charleston County sheriff's deputies say they arrested one man with a gun after responding to a disturbance in the Charlie O's Club parking lot this weekend.
At approximately 4 a.m. on Sunday morning, deputies responded to the club on Dorchester Road and arrested 23-year-old Jaton L Edwards. He was charged with pointing and presenting a firearm and unlawful carrying of a firearm in an ABC establishment.
According to the report, when deputies arrived, three Charlie O's club security guards had Edwards and another suspect detained in the parking lot.
One of the guards told police that he had seen the suspects with a gun earlier that evening at a different club in Berkeley County, so they approached the suspect's vehicle when he arrived at Charlie O's.
When guards approached the window, Edwards pointed his gun at them, the police report says. The security guards said Edwards dropped the gun at their request, and they held him until deputies arrived.
According to an officer on the scene, Edwards admitted to being a convicted felon who could not legally carry a firearm, but said he needed to have a gun in order to return home from the club safely.
Edwards is currently being held in the Charleston County Detention Center. The other suspect was released on the scene.
