CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - Investigators say they have arrested a 20-year-old man who told a detective and police officers that he was an MMA fighter shortly before he was arrested following a brief scuffle in downtown.

The Charleston Police Department charged Quan Antonio Weston with resisting arrest and disorderly conduct.

On Saturday at 2:10 a.m., a detective in plain clothes was doing surveillance in the area of King and Morris streets when he saw Weston in a verbal argument with a woman.

At one point, police say as the woman was attempting to call someone to pick her up, Weston told her,"Hang up the (expletive) phone or I will throw it."

The detective reported that Weston was being verbally abusive and aggressive not only towards the woman, but also to other people walking down the street. A police report states when a car arrived to pick the woman up, she "gently touched [Weston] in a non threatening manner" and told him she was leaving.

According to the detective, Weston then grabbed the woman's arm and twisted it. The detective said he then identified himself as a detective, showed Weston his badge and told him to leave the woman alone and go home.

An incident report states, Weston then told the detective,"(expletive) you (expletive) I am not going anywhere."

The woman then told the detective that she did not want to press any charges and left the scene in the car that had arrived. Authorities say Weston continued being verbally aggressive and using profanity while people were walking down the street.

Police say Weston also kept pulling out his wallet and pointing at it "in attempts to call the police." The detective said Weston appeared to be unsteady on his feet, had blood shot eyes, slurred speech and had an odor of alcohol coming from him.

According to police, after Watson refused to walk away, the detective and police officers attempted to arrest him.

Authorities say Watson refused to comply, grabbed a metal bar and said,"(expletive) you I am an MMA fighter lets (sic) see what you got."

After a brief struggle, officers say they eventually arrested Watson.
