CHARLESTON, SC (WCSC) - Police have arrested a registered sex offender after they say he abducted a woman outside a King Street bar before groping her near Hampton Park and forcing her to reciprocate the act near the Crosstown.

Charleston Police Department spokesman Charles Francis said 47-year-old Nathaniel Wilson, of 573 Meeting Street, sexually assaulted the victim between 12:35 a.m. and 4:45 a.m. Sunday on Mary Murray Drive.

Officials say the victim encountered the suspect as she was walking down King Street after leaving a bar. Wilson, claiming he had a gun, guided the victim to Mary Murray Drive, where he made her unbutton her shorts. He then touched her inappropriately inside of her shorts, Francis said.

The victim and the suspect then left the park and walked to the pedestrian bridge over the Septima Clark Expressway, where he made the victim fondle him, Francis said.

The suspect attempted to kiss the victim several times but she continued to turn away from him. The victim and the suspect then walked to a Meeting Street convenience store, where she was able to get a clerk to help her.

The clerk called Charleston police but Wilson left the scene before officers arrived, Francis said.

Wilson is charged with criminal sexual conduct third degree.
