CLARENDON COUNTY, SC (WIS) - Clarendon County deputies are still trying to locate a missing 2-year-old they say was abducted by his father early Monday afternoon.
According to Sheriff Garrett, 2-year-old Brandon Lee DuBose, II was taken from a gas station at Raccoon Road and Highway 261 West around 1:30 p.m.
Deputies say the boy was with his mother, when his father, 32-year-old Brandon Lee Dubose, took him and fled the scene.
A short time later, a deputy spotted Dubose's vehicle and initiated a traffic stop. According to the deputy, when he approached the vehicle, he could hear the child screaming.
Dubose then yelled at the officer that "He was not going back to jail" and took off.
A pursuit ensued into Sumter County, where Dubose turned into a cornfield and exited the vehicle with the child.
According to Sheriff Garrett, officers do know that Dubose fled the corn field with the child.
Garrett says bloodhounds and a helicopter were called into the search, while he organized crews at the intersection of Sammy Swamp and Hwy 261.
Garrett says deputies followed the father's tracks into a swamp area and has reason to believe that the child was not with him when he left.
The Clarendon County Sheriff's Department have contacted other resources to help conduct the search for the missing boy in the swamp area.
